Cabling Trees

Cabling is another very expensive technique which in most cases is unnecessary and detrimental to the tree. Cabling simply moves the stress point from one position to another. Cables are unsightly and create an artificial tension in the tree that can actually lead to more ice breakage instead of less. The only time cabling should be used is to keep a weak crotch from splitting. Never should cabling be used to hold up low growing limbs.
