The gold bug insect is slightly smaller than a convergent lady beetle, is the same shape and orange in color with two black spots on its back while in daylight. If placed in complete darkness the gold bug drops down its transparent shield that completely covers its whole body, then if placed in sunlight it appears to be solid shiny gold. This beetle was found feeding on a wild morning glory. It was kept in captivity for 7 months and daily given fresh morning glory foliage until it escaped. The gold bug seems rare. |
