PENSTEMON  

(Penstemon spp.)

  Durable perennial that grows to about 2 feet in sun or part shade and blooms in spring Gulf Coast. Penstemon (P. tennis)  has lavender flowers.  Hill Country penstemon is hot pink to red and Rock penstemon. (P. bacchari folius) is cherry red with a white throat.  They also attract hummingbirds.
