The natural organic lifestyle is catching on. Over 58% of people in the U.S. are growing vegetable and herb gardens because they are concerned about the food they buy and eat.

On the other hand, even though we should all expect our food to be clean and healthy, the use of salt fertilizer and toxic pesticide is also growing in volume and toxicity. One of the many examples is the expanded use of neonicotiniods that are powerful neurotoxins that contaminate our food and water and hurt pollinators such as honeybees. Other detrimental products that greet you inside front doors of “box stores” and many lawn & garden stores include glyphosate (Roundup), 2,4-D, Merit, Manage, pesticide laced fertilizers and more. You don’t hear much about these toxic herbicides and insecticides in the mainstream media. Such poor reporting and the millions (or billions) of dollars spent by the toxic chemical companies on “research” and marketing allow the USDA and EPA to rubber-stamp these toxic products.

The Dirt Doctor and the Texas Organic Research Center (TORC), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit foundation, are advancing the natural organic education and movement in spite of the powerful lobbying, advertising and PR of Monsanto, Bayer, Dow, Scotts Miracle-Gro, DuPont, BASF, Syngenta and others, but there is much work to do. TORC produces research, programs and communications for natural organic solutions that are effective and healthy for people, pets, plants, wildlife and our environment.

Here are some of the natural organic programs TORC has developed and is working on:

1. Programs and specifications for growing healthy food crops with great taste and high nutritional value.

2. Specifications for the proper planting, production and maintenance of healthy trees and the Sick Tree Treatment for unhealthy trees.

3. Programs for healthy turfgrasses, rose gardens and fruit trees with natural organic products and techniques.

4. Soil improvement programs that stimulate strong microbiotic growth, prevent the volatilization of nitrogen and encourage the sequestration of atmospheric carbon to aid and protect the soil food web.

5. Programs to control Rose Rosette, oak wilt and other diseases that have not been controlled using the commonly recommended toxic chemicals.

7. Solutions for various pest growths in water including string algae in ponds and water features and mustard algae in swimming pools.

8. Programs for mosquito management without toxic chemicals.

9. Methods for protection and encouragement of bees and other pollinators.

10. Management techniques that save 35 – 50% on water use for residential landscapes, commercial properties, farms and ranches.

For TORC to continue its work, it needs your support to fund the research and development of effective and cost efficient programs. Any amount will help. Your contribution is fully tax deductible to the extent provided by law. TORC is a 501(c)(3) not for-profit foundation. Please make a donation to TORC today online ("Buy a Donation") or by US Postal Mail.
