Wrapping tree trunks at planting or any other time is bad practice. Paper or cloth wrap not only doesn't prevent insects and disease, it gives them a good environment in which to get started. If sunscald is a concern, it can be prevented by applying bark-colored interior latex paint diluted 50% with water to young trunks. When trees are planted in lawn, keep a 4-foot-diameter or larger area around the trunk free of turf or other vegetation. |
