What is the best way to spread a ton of red lava sand over my 1-acre lot? I tried the broadcast spreader I have left over from my pre-organic days ... but I guess anything with SCOTS on it just won't work with non-chemicals! :)
Adjusted to wide-open, this spreader has a pretty-good sized hole through which material can drop into the whirling thrower. But the sand just sorta clumps up and won't go through the hole.
Any ideas that improve on my current technique of grabbing handfulls from the wheelbarrow and then throwing them across the yard?
Thanks,
