:D I live in the country on 8 acres and have managed to get rid of most of the fire ants. Now I have either dark red or black ants all over the place, no big mounds like fire ants. They are crawlng up my hibiscus and sunflowers. The fire ant bait does not kill them.

I have to put DE under the dog pans to keep the ants out of their feed long enough for the dogs to eat.

Maybe someone knows what kind they are and how to get rid of them.

Yellow Rose:

What type of 'fire ant bait' are you using? Chemical?
Look up the formula for Garrett Juice. It may work on the ants you described.

Regarding the ants in the pet food and the use of DE 'under' the dish; I have the same problem, except they get in the storage bin for the food. I sprinkle DE into the food and now I no longer have ants. Can't hurt the dogs as DE is used in cattle feed and some pet foods. Dogs clean out their dish before the ants arrive.
