Does anyone know of a bug that looks similar to a ladybug, but has a red head and a blue body that is a little more rectangular than the ladybug's?
I have seen it on Marie Pavie roses, and I don't know if it is good or bad (but not ugly).

Howard,
Unfortunatley I didn't think about getting a picture. BUT I am on the prowl for another shot at the creature. This may turn out to be the best way to get rid of it....to try to find it again to photograph. I'll be in touch.

The only beetle that eats roses and is remotely blue (also shimmery-green/yellow) that I can think of is the japanese beetle. I don't know how much it resembles a lady bug though. These are an evil invader-species. I squash them right in their rose. Serves as a warning to incoming bugs too, or so I'd like to think.
