charmvalerie-
I heard this second or third hand from the man who trained the spiders for the movie Arachnophobia. Spiders have their taste buds on the tips of their legs. Use something like garlic pepper tea that will cause them to vacate your yard. Also, Howard has been getting calls aout the use of horse apples (from bois de'arc trees (sp)) to repel scorpions. Just scatter them around the edge of your property, it may work on trantulas.
I know they migrate this time of year also. This may be a temporary thing. A friend of mine lives near Sanger, he see hundred's of them everyday during the migration.

Please don't kill them, they are harmless to humans, but of course, not so harmless to other insects.

ghochs is right. Tarantulas are the gentlest spiders around. They got a bad reputation from old movies distorting their true nature. It is a shame. I think of them as furry friends. They do serve a great purpose getting rid of malefic bugs.

I dont want to kill them, just rid my little yard of them. Its over run. Teh horseapples may work, i have already begun collecting them to prevent rodents this winter. If they repel scorpions too- all the better! They DO bite and i have 3 small children so I cannot just leave them to hibernate and return every year. one is one thing but 7 HUGE ones in 2 days- ugh! i feel sorry for the guy in Sanger but I guess guys dont get as freaked out about it. to women, a spoinder is a spider!
  thanks y'all!! :D

Just do a search on Howard's web site, it will give you different and various forms of information about garlic pepper tea.
