I bought a composter made from a PVC pickle barrel from a company in Oreg. It roatates and has a screw on top. Now the problem. It never gets dry. I is wet and soopy and I have hundreds of slimy bugs crawling through it. What are they and how do I get this mess to cook. :?:

You might not like my suggestion, but I would dump it out on the ground and make a pile. Then you are not limited to the size of the barrel. Maybe you could "precompost" in the barrel and finish on the ground.

I'm with Dchall_San_Antonio in my preference of composting in a free form pile on the ground. That method definitely provides more flexibility for adding addtional materials.

If you are limited to containter composting, however, perhaps you could add a large amount of dry materials to your barrel.
