| Hey--my Spanish broom, 3.5 yrs old (in my garden) has managed to COMPLETELY die in just 3-4 wks. No sign of herbicides applied by the neighbors' garden service & nuthin' else nearby seems to be affected. It was sooooo gorgeous this spring & now, brittle twigs. Called the nursery I bought it from & they said that the heavy spring rains are likely to blame, but since we had heavy rain last spring & it survived that, don't know... Suggestion to cut it back is being considered. Any other ideas?? I really don't want to lose this one. The nursery I bought it from will replace it if I want, but as it's now approx 9' high, it'll be a couple of years to regain lost ground. HELP!!! |

| I would not be surprised if all the wet spring weather we have here was the culprit. Spanish Broom typically grows in very dry areas with rocky soil types. We may be dry in the summer here, but we typically get most of our rain in big doses in the spring. Our heavy clay soils doesn't help. I look at this plants as sort of a "try and see" plant here. It may look nice for a while, but may eventually die out over time. If I were you, I would try cutting it back and see if will resprout. |
