| I heard Howard's tease on WBAP about some company using a liquid form of BT to control mosquitos but I wasn't able to catch the details later on the show. Anyone have any details on this? |

I just did a quick web search for "liquid BT" and found lots of sites. Here's one: http://www.ridabug.com/ICCO0008.asp.
I'm sure one of the sites will offer a means to order on-line.
I didn't know it could be used for mosquitoes or how to apply it. I thought it was used for tent caterpillars. Let me know what your results are. |

| The subspecies of Bacillis thuringiensis that is used as a larvacide to control mosquitoes is Bacillis thuringiensis israelensis (Bti). It also works on black flies (gnats). The Bt that works on caterpillars is not the same as Bti and will not work on mosquitoes. So, if you're searching for the mosquito-specific subspecies, look for Bti. One example of the liquid Bti products is GreenSense AquaBac, described at Rohde's Nursery's Web site, wihch is linked in the Organic Business Directory in the Organic Sources section on the home page, http://www.dirtdoctor.com/home.php |

Howard was talking about Soils Alive doing applicaitons of Bti for mosquite control. We have clients we apply liquid Bti for on a regular bases. In fact we have a neighborhood we do every 45-60 days. The Bti is a great product because it is non-toxic but also has no odor. We normally apply it along with our aerated compost tea so that we are foliar feeding and treating for mosiquitos at the same time. We can be reached at 972-272-9211 or at www.soilsalive.com.
Thanks, Michael Bosco |

| Does the Bti recommended for mosquito control also affect the good insects? I want to control mosquitoes in my vegetable garden area, but don't want to keep other insects from helping pollinate my tomatoes, etc. Any suggestions? |

No, Bti is specific to the mosquito and black fly, as far as we know.
