I just returned to this type of thinking. Started a pile and have a ? or two.
I've been using backwash beer on my pile, seems to be ok, are there any reasons not to continue.
As far as sugars go, I've also been adding the leftover gatorade from the jobsite to the pile, I'm doing good, right? Thanx for the chance to enjoy this again. I'm finding gardening very interesting. Dave |

Sounds good to me! Any organic matter that came originally from plant waste is fine for composting. Also proteins, carbohydrates, and sugars are great for building up the microherd inside the compost pile.
Beer waste contains some beneficial fungi, carbohydrates, and sugar.
Soft drinks definitely add sugar.
Sugars are mostly carbon, and they are quickly digested by microbes for extra energy for survival and longer life in the compost pile.
The more aerobic microbes you build up in your pile, the hotter and faster the pile will get, while decomposing. |
