Our 3 large Crepe Myrtles are currently discharging a film or residue for the first time in recent history. When it gets on a car, windshield or paint, it is almost impossible to get off. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you use to remove the residue? Has anyone treated the plants to reduce or eliminate the residue?
We have been using an Orange Oil based cleaner as it has been the only chemical that seems to work. But, it does not get all of the residue from the windshield and I'm hesitant to use it on the paint. |

larryse-
Sounds like you have an infestation of aphids on your trees. Overall, you need to improve the growing conditions so they are less likely to be attacked. In the short term, spray the foliage with a strong jet of water all over. This should knock the aphids off. Or, you can spray with neem products to kill any aphids. Take the car to the car wash and let them deal with the problem while you get things on the home front corrected.
