Can anyone recommend a good poolside tree? I want a big shade tree that is not too messy and whose roots won't crack my pool's foundation one of these days.

I really like the Live Oak, especially for its spreading branching pattern, but I think it might be too messy???

Thanks in advance,

I have the following trees around my pool and they are all messy, but none of them has or will ever hurt the structure of the pool. I'll write a detailed answer to this question in my Dallas Morning News column.

Eastern red cedar, chinese pistachio, live oak, Texas kidneywood, Japanese maple and Texas mountain laure - and more.
