My home is on the edge of a small town and next to a highway. The strip between our chainlink fence and the road is a mess. Running the middle of this strip is a concrete watershed with about 4 foot strips of grass steeply sloped on each side. It is almost impossible and dangerous to mow. The herbicide truck comes through to spray the grass next to the road. I keep trying to figure out how to make this better. What I think will work is a line of Texas sage. My concern is that the herbicide truck will still spray. Also, I'm not even sure if I'm allowed to plant shrubs there. I'd love to hear other ideas for planting or information what I'm allowed to do.

Thanks

Pam,
Have you contacted the local Highway Maintenance Dept. ?
I feel sure they can work with you and recomend plants that meet their requirments.

I'm also sure they'll have to do a Gov. study first.

It's kinda sad they do automatic herbicide sprays whether you want it or not. They probably do it because it is dangerous to mow. If you put in a ground cover, maybe they will stop spraying. They just don't want anything choking the watershed.
