:?: I have a 5' Japanese Maple in a large container. The edges of the leaves are turning brown and brittle and curling up. I've been told this is due to too much sun, but someone else told me it is because it is getting too much water. I have it in almost full shade, with the only sun it gets being morning sun. :?:

I'd say the lil guy might still be getting too much sun.

Japanese Maples are pretty much pure understory trees around here. I've one that did the same thing and it only gets sun from about 9-12:30 which is fine in spring but really torches it in fall. We're just too hot.

I'd relocate it so that is basically only receives dappled light filtered from a larger tree overhead.

Obviously watering can be a problem, but if you check and the soil seems to be draining alright I'd blame sun exposure.
