Stinky backyard from pets

We have two dogs who always seem to go to the bathroom in the same spot in the yard. With the excessive heat lately, my backyard smells really bad from both urine and feces. What can I put on the yard that won't hurt the grass but get rid of the smell? My backyard is very small. Thanks...Marilyn

I used to rescue dogs and up to 22 dogs at one time. I scooped as much as possible and spread hydrated lime on the yard. It did not hurt my bermuda grass. I spread it by hand and did not need much. A 50 lb bag lasted severalmonths. If you do this wear gloves it and do it on a calm day.

Dogs on a raw and natural diet are not only healthier, but they have a nice hard feces, and a lot less of it, with very little smell. With an added bonus that it turns chalky white the next day and it disintegrates within a few days. They also pee a lot less and have less smelly urine (less toxins to get out of the body).

Try researching the BARF diet, or one similar to JULIETTE de BAIRACLI LEVY’S. Basically lots of raw meaty bones (VARIETY being key here), grain-free, and add some pulverized veggies... though I will be taking this one step further and fermenting them along with some for myself thanks to what I've learned at the Weston A Price Foundation http://www.WestonAPrice.org/

If you're already using organic materials for fertilizer, you might try doubling up the amount you're using. Or using it twice as often. I had two dogs for years and never had a smell. We never had piles more than 3 days old either. They disappear like magic.
