Use of decomposed granite

A neighbor just gave us over 1/2 yard of decomposed granite. I know Bob Webster and Howard have talked about using it, but I forgot what to use it for. Is it for mulch or do I mix it in new soil? Thanks.

Howard has used it as a mulch in his annual beds. A small amount mixed into a new bed along with other ammendments is fine. The most widespread use of dg is sidewalks and driveways, but I like it as a mulch and often advise people to use it under their trees where the shade has taken over the grass.

We use decomposed granite for beds in which we are planting plants which "can't stand wet feet" but do better with regular watering, e.g. rosemary and desert willow. In those beds, we cut way back on the lava sand

Thanks for the ideas. Did I mention that we live on very sandy soil down here in the "sand hills" SE of San Antonio?

I did not realize you have sandy soil. I'm afraid what works for me in my black clay gumbo would not be appropriate for you.
