The plant is very interesting. It came up either from a wildflower seed collection or just as a weed.

Have you been feeding birds birdseed? I have several of those "plants" (they actually look a little like an ornamental grass) that are growing in some pots that I had around my birdfeeder. It looks really pretty in your picture! The birdseed I have been using contains millet, barley, sunflower seeds and cracked corn. I know what corn and sunflower are - so mine may be either millet or barley!

Could it be sorghum? I've seen fields of that all over the place. The leaves look the same but the seed heads are smaller...just a though. :D
