WE just bought a house that has an established asparagus bed.
The plants have all gone to ferns.
I need some advice here. What should I do? Cut them back or leave them.

Leave them alone for now, and when they freeze back this Winter (or Fall as the case may be), cut them to ground level. Next Spring, they will start sending up new shoots again and you can harvest at that time.
