what's the best fertilizer for my crepe myrtle. It gets late afternoon sun, and it's looking a little shabby.

Crape myrtles start to look a little worn this time of year. Powdery mildew has hit many of them and trying to live thru 100 degree days is tough. Are you using an organic program overall? What has been your watering schedule the past month? What are the flowers like and what color are they?

These are hardy plants, it will probably be OK, hit it with an organic foliar fertilizer and a granular around the base of the tree. New plants should be watered with a hose with the nozzle off for the first year. A lawn sprinkler will not do the trick, especially if the plant was root bound.

I have been applying the aerated compost tea to my crepe myrtle which has been responding amazingly well,I also just gave it a dose of cornmeal and cottonsed meal before our dallas rain. I only have one crepe myrtle that my wife transplanted from her mother's place 20 yrs ago. I consistently ran over it as a seedling with the truck, but somehow it survived and i hve been feeding it cottonseed meal and compost for the past 5 yrs and it has bloomed amazingly well with no powdery mildew .
