I had a watermelon break off the vine this morning. It weights about 1 pound. What do I do with it? Should I let it sit around for a few days to ripen? Is the poor guy edible? Or compost?

Once it has broken off the vine it is what it is. Cut it open and see what it looks/tastes like. I doubt if it is any good but you have no other choice. I had a small one like that last week and it was mushy in the center but the part near the rind was good.
