What is the best way to get acorns to sprout and grow into trees? I have thrown countless ones into my yard and nothing ever comes up. It seems that if they fall off the tree and grow, that they should grow wherever they fall. I know that not all of them will become trees, but it seems that some of them would. Any suggestions?

Ck the above. You need to post your question on the TREE section!
Good Luck.

Acorns rarely grow after falling on the ground from a tree or from a human hand. They get established mostly by squirrels that bury hundreds of them but dig up less.
Get your acorns as soon as possible after falling. At each site, plant 3 to 4 acorns spaced about 6 to 8 inches apart. This will increase the chances of at least one successful seedling being present at the site. Plant acorns on their sides at a depth of about 2 inches. Deeper planting can decrease seedling emergence rates (especially in heavy soils), and shallower planting can increase the chances that the acorns may dry out or be eaten by mice or squirrels. Water thoroughly.
Mulch the site to keep weeds at bay.
