I'm searching for "my" ultimate compost bin.

Welcome to the Organic Forum. I see, by your post that you are a Master Gardner. Did they teach organics or synthics. Just curious. Nadine, Organic1, is working on an Organic Master Gardner course so we can become certified. I can't really recommend where to get an "ultimate compost bin". I made my own from cedar. It is 4' X 8' X 4'. Each bin is 4x4x4. I call it my ultimate compost bin, because I could not find one that I liked. It was a little pricey, but I expect it to last for many years of compost building. I tell my wife I am a farmer. She askes what I farm. I tell her 'Compost' She just smiles knowing that the garden and her flower beds look so good because of the compost.

Yes I've read the adventures of one Dirk Pitt, quite a guy.

Welcome to the forum and have fun doing it. Lots of good folks here with good help to boot.

My compost retainer is made from Cattle Panels, that you can fine at Farm and Ranch Stores and some lumber companies.

Use a close mesh grid of 2''x2'' or 4''x4''
Take a 16' length (you might have to cut in half to get it home) and bend the panel into (4) 4' sections thus making a box about 4'-6'' high.

Make one of the panels removable. This is your gate.

This material also makes great trellises for climbers. Very sturdy and no rust.

In closing, thanks for your service to our Country. My son is a Chief, Naval Reserves and has his 20 years in next year.

Oh, I might add that you add an automatic signature to your profile set-up that would include you location. Gives us a hint as to where you live to be of better help.

My MG course focused on synthetic pest management. I'm the lone voice in the wilderness. Interestingly the monthly meeting with the largest attendance was on organic gardening, lots on non-MG guests.

Sure love your humor. Welcome aboard and keep trying to convert the non-organic people to our side. The biggest problem I have, when discussing organics over synthetics, is convincing the non believers that the organic approach is less expensive over the long haul. Their reply to me is that synthetic fertilizer is cheaper to buy, then the organic fertilizer.
Which is true up front. but over time you need less organic fertilizer and it is the only true slow release fertilizer. You can apply it any time and it does not burn the roots if over applied, like the synthetic fertilizer does.
