Wildlife foodplots

I'll be planting some warm and cool season foodplots for our deer and turkey this year. Mostly legumes and grasses, 2-3 acres. The plots will be planted in what now is natural clearings. The soil has never been broken and never been grazed. I've heard Howard on the radio (if i'm correct) that initially when starting bed preperation that is sometimes nesessary to "over amend" with your soil amendments at first, to speed up the proccess. I plan to plow, disc, amend the soil and sow the seeds. Any thoughts? David.

Don't plow. Turning over soil is one of the worst things that has happen to soil in last 200 + years. If you turn over you put aerobicon the bottom and take air from it. At the same time you turn anaerobic up and give it air when it doesn'r need it. There is a book called "The Plowman's Folly" - slow but explains this stuff well. I think it is at Island Press Publishing.
Disc will be fine as you can work top vegetation into the soil which will work as mulch - compost.
