If you are wanting small quantities only:

I put raw peanuts in the shell out for the birds last winter. I guess the squirrels got a few too, because they sprouted & grew in my flower beds last summer. I let them grow until before the first frost, and pulled up the plants. There were quite a few peanuts on the roots (don't know how many to expect anyway but I don't think the quantity was what a farmer would be happy with), but many/most had some type of insect/nematode damage. We left them out for the birds (and squirrels).

Anyway, I got the peanuts at Brookshires and in the past have gotten them at a feed store.
