Watering systems

I have a small front yard ..maybe 30 x 40 feet .... and looking to add a sprinkler system without digging up the yard with an underground system .... don't think I need anything that extensive ..and am tired of pulling out the hose twice a week to turn it on :-)

I'd love to find someone who could just install one or two permanent sprinklers off the water supply to the front of the house .... maybe something like the sprinklers you find in golf courses ...... that could cover the whole front yard ..................... anyone done anything like this ever, or does anyone know wnyone who could install this?

My whole attitude about hoses changed once I got a really great quality hose. Back in about 1975 I got a hose from Sears. It was the best non-rubber hose they had. I still have that hose in use. Recently I needed another hose (bigger yard) and got another Sears hose. My wife ran over it in my gravel driveway and it got about 50 punctures from the sharp rocks. I took it back to Sears and they didn't ask one question - they just handed me another one off the shelf.

But wait, there's more! My whole attitude about hoses changed again when my mother in law bought a hose roller. I was mowing her lawn at the time and had to collect the hose and find a place to put it and then move it again to mow under where I had put it. Pain!! Then she got the roller. Well that very day I went out and got myself one for my yard. Those things are great, too! I can roll my hose up and out of the way in about 10 seconds.

So now I have an impact sprinkler on a regular hose to water my yard. For a yard like yours (mine is similar) I set it in the center of the yard on the full circle setting for at least one hour. Then I reset it to spray half-circles. I put it in the center of each of the four sides of my yard to spray back in toward the center of the yard. So there is plenty of overlap. I run it for another hour on each side. That give about 2 hours of water pretty much everywhere. I water like that once a week MAXIMUM. If my grass ever shows signs of drying out earlier than a week, I stretch the watering out to 3 hours the next time and try to make it the full week. What I'm trying to do is train my grass roots to dive deep for water. When they get deep enough they will find more water and go much longer between wilting. I think it's working. Last summer I watered four times.

I borrowed this link from a post I read from Nina some time ago, It is an alternative to moving hoses around. http://www.accurain.com/ . I personnally, have done as mentioned, used an impact sprinkler (I think that they provide better coverage over larger areas) but, this accurain looks kinda cool. 8)
