CGM prices - out of sight!!!

$20.99 less 10% dirt doctor discount for powdered CGM (Aliance 50lb bag). Add $4 or $5 for granulated. The powdered is special order, call ahead.

I have to wonder if some of the high prices is because Aliance specically labels and sells CGM as pre-emergent weed control. Doesn't that require gvt certification? This is supposed to be a by-product of corn milling which to me means much of it just get's thrown away. Has anyone found just plain old horticultural CGM?

Alliance is competitive with other brands. It is the stores in your area that don't have competition so they charge what they can get.

Try this link and call the feed & garden centers in your area. It should cost under $20 per 50# - $13 to $15 is what it should be!

Not sure where you bought in N TX but at Wells Bros in Plano, it's $24 / 50#.

Dried Molasses can be bought at any feed store for less than $10/50lb. Look up feed stores in any phone book or drive through any small town. Most small towns have a feed store.

I don't doubt alliance is competive with other brands of CGM sold specically for weed control. There is plenty of competition in North DFW for organic supplies, many are not even listed in that source. This stuff is made practically in my backyard. I used to pay about $15 for a 50 pound bag 4 years ago. My current supplier and I had a long talk about the cost. This stuff is getting more and more popular, he's just passing along the increases that Alliance gives to him.

What I'm wondering is what would plain old CGM sold as feed or other uses go for. I've never seen anything other than Alliance labeled for weed control, even at feed stores. As this stuff is basically, I believe, a waste product, it seems like it should cost far far less than even $13 per bag.

Prices now are up a little from what I already posted earlier in the thread. Bulk price/ton for 60% protein corn gluten meal in the corn producing areas, of which DFW is not one, ran like this last week: Central Illinois was steady to 20.00 higher from 370.00-385.00; Kansas City was 35.00 higher at 400.00; St. Louis was 10.00 to 15.00 higher from 380.00-390.00; Memphis was steady at 390.00. That's close to $10/50# unbagged in meal form in areas where the corn supply is plentiful. You can imagine the rest.
One thing I've been wondering is whether the 42% protein version would be as/nearly as effective as a pre-emergent as is the 60% product. I'm fairly sure that the low protein product would be cheaper than the 60%, which I assume is what the product sold for garden use is. If what is sold for garden use IS the 42% product, then I suppose that raises potency questions.

Seems to be a shortage everywhere I go in Grapevine/Roanoke/Keller, but that was on Sat/Sun when the feed stores were closed. Went to every home depot/lowes around. The sticker was there, but no bags...
