pine tree chunks

We have a local tree service that has been bringing loads of the chipped trees to us. We received 2 loads today that is mainly pine tree shaving and needles. Is this something that can be used as mulch in a flowerbed? What are the uses for this kind of stuff. My husband has a chipper shredder and he usually takes the stuff we get and runs it back through his shredder to make it much finer. We are just not real sure if this is something that we can use right away because of the oil in the wood.
