grapevines trunk peeling

I have a grapevine who's trunk is peeling. I was told that it is being sun burnt. Can I wrap the trunk in loose burlap to protect it or would this damage it? Any suggestions to help with this problem would be appreciated.

I'm not an expert on grapes but in my experience, the trunks peel naturally. Thats what grapes do. Any other input is welcome!
