Hello:

Just curious about something....I just moved out to the Scurry (south of Kaufman, TX area) onto a long narrow 7 acres. I have a few things in mind for this lot, but none of them include the rather large collection of mesquite trees I have right in the middle of it. What is the most effective way to remove these? notsuh

Hello notsuh,

I'm not sure either.
List a few of the things you have in mind. I'd have to remove any of the Mesquite trees if they are of any size.

I might suggest you make several posts on this subject in the TREE and/or Ranch forums but be a bit more specific.

There are a few mature Mesquites out there, but mostly they're small bushy little annoyances with a lot of thorns. Thinking of finding out what vinegar will do. A neighbor said to try salt buried at the root. Then there's the expensive last resort: bulldozer. I'll post the results when I get around to trying them.

notsuh,

Latest idea proposed is a 50/50 mix of diesel and liguid molasses.
Diesel kills and the molasses (microbes) removes the diesel fuel.

Drill holes in stump and pour mixture on stump area.

Cool, kinda like the petroleum eating bacteria used to help control oil spills on the ocean? I have a neighbor with the same dilemma; I'll pass that Idea along as well.

Thanks
