Is this a good time to plant hot peppers, or should i wait till April or May. What kind of soil do yall use on your peppers?

My husband and I planted our pepper garden last weekend. It's past the last average freeze date. I use organic compost ammended with everything listed in Howard's Organic veg. gardening in Texas book. I believe it has lava sand, green sand, molasses and some other things. I can't remember them off the top of my head. In the very least, just follow Howard organic program and you'll be fine.
