Planting Time

It was planting time at Benpensa Farm again yesterday. UPS brought us pepper plants and herbs at 6:10 PM and Frank had them all planted before dark. He planted 60 pepper plants consisting of four each of the following varieties:Anaheim, Ancho Ranchero, Ariana, Bell Boy, Cayenne, Chi Chien, Cubanelle, Golden Bell, Hot Portugal, Huastero, Kung Pau, Numex Twilight, Serrano,Zier, and Thai Hot. Taking inventory after this planting we determine that we will have enhough peppers to can pepper relish if we merely plant Jalapeno and Habanero.

We also received some herbs most of which were planted in the container garden. We planted one each oif the following varieties: Angelica, Arrarat Basil, Thai Sweet Basil, Bergamot, Blue Borage, Lovage, Sweet Marjoram, French Thyme, Salem Rosemary, Dancing waters Rosemary, and Nancy Howard Rosemary.

Before these plants arrived we had planted a total of fifty tomato plants and they are growing well and half of them have been mulched with cedar shavings. We will mulch the remainder in a week or so.

We have harvested about five or six strawberries so far and have a few (very few) unripe blackberries on the vines. The pommegranates and elderberries did finally leaf out and are thriving.

It is getting very dry around here. We need rain badly.
