I've recently put about 4 inches of freshly-chipped tree trimmings on my 80 X 20 ft garden. I know that fresh mulch can rob nitrogen from the soil. Since corn is a heavy feeder, should I supplementally feed the corn with something like blood meal?

I regularly fertilize the entire garden with foliar feeding. Is that enough nutrition for the plants or should I feed more ?

Thanks,

Dave in Denton

In my experience, mulching on top of the ground does not cause leaching of nitrogen from the soil, but mixing wood chips in with the soil does. If it's just piled on top, I wouldn't worry too much.

I agree w/dragonfly on the mulch. Along with your foliar spray you should also drench the soil with you mix. It works great.
