I have discovered several brown bugs on my watermelon plants. They can fly and parts of their body seem to be cleverly camoflauged to make them look like leaves. There is a single yelow stripe mid-abdomen that runs east-west. Their back two legs are much longer then the other legs and the knee bends upwards. They appear to be laying eggs on the tops of the leaves. Also, I have cucumber next to the watermelon but the bugs seem to like to hang out on the newly developed fruit.

Does anyone know what these bugs may be?

From your description, they sound like leaf-footed bugs, but it's hard to tell without more detail. I see them now and then in my garden, but so far, haven't seen any damage done. If there are great numbers, they could probably be destructive. Do a search on google and see if you can find any photos. Let me know if that's what they are.

That is exactly what it is. I have them, and have had them in the past, and your right they dont do any real damage. I usually see them on my peppers, however this year I've discovered a small population of assasin bugs and their numbers seem to have dwindled.
