We have a privacy fence, but outside cats come into the yard over the fence. We have tried ammonia and moth balls, but neither work. Someone told us about Citrus Oil. We got some, but the label was gone and so we don't know whether to dilute or brush on full strength. Can anyone help?

Linda Garrett,

I don't know that orange oil at any dilution rate will be effective in disuading cats from coming into the yard. What are they doing? Getting in flower beds? If that is it, adding a rough mulch or rose bush clippings to your beds should send them elsewhere.

You can ask your local animal control for the loan of a Have-A-Hart live trap. Also notifying animal control may prompt them to send a truck out to help catch the cats and remove them from the neighborhood. If they are feral cats you really want to catch them and have them removed, if they are your neighbor's cats, I would explain to them that you don't want their animals on your property. Finally, as a last resort, (and I know I'll hear about this), but a BB-Gun can be a deterrent. It won't kill the cats, but will send them on their way.
