Does anyone have any information on the mushroom compost that is sold in the Madisonville area? I am told it is plentiful and cheap, but is it good?

One person told me it was stinky and was slow to show improvement in his crops, but then really seemed to help. Makes me wonder if it was not finished compost. Can anyone tell me what the components are? It is used for growing commercial mushrooms.

I need a lot of compost, and I do not know of a local source.

Thanks,

QMJ

I've never used it myself, but there's been mention of it here before. Run a search on mushroom and compost and youi should find it.

Perhaps someone with a better memory can help. There was a fellow out at the first HG Organic Show who did mushroom compost. It seems he was south of Dallas in the Corsicana area. I'm not thinking of Jay Mertz of Rabbit Hill Farm, but I may be confusing the location.

If Madisonville is near Corsicana (your member location), you could check with Jay.

Hi do "Q". Marshall Grain and Feed in Ft. Worth and Mikes Garden in Arlington both carry the product. Maybe their people could hook you up with your people about the mushroom people. I was told to use with care, because of its potency, but I never ran into a "problem"....and no it is not "cheap". Lowes in Arlington carries it as well. I would go to them and read the lable for myself.
