If the mold is in the padding, I can't think of anything. I would definitely toss the padding, that stuff should be cheap enough to replace. As for the carpeting, I think a good steam cleaning would kill off the mold, but don't know if the carpet could take being wet again. A good carpet cleaning company should be able to tell you better. Another option would be the manufacturer. How old is the carpet? Is it worth saving? Will it take being stretched when it gets re-layed. I'm assuming you have it pulled up right now.

You can not kill mold. The only way to get rid of mold is to remove the moldy surface.
Mold spreads easily by spores in the air and can cause serious health problems down the road if you don't take the cleanup seriously.
Bleach does not kill mold either. If the mildew is extensive, you might bring in a specialist to take air samples and determine if the problem has spread. |
