When and how do I prune my hardy hibiscus, including winter?

I wait until the cold winter has caused it to go dormant, then I trim it to the ground. When Spring returns, the new growth comes from the base and not from any of the branches that grew the previous year.

Hi Jill,
Great advice from Sandi, but it depends on which hydrangea you have as to when and IF you prune at all. Here's a site that will help you to id yours and when to prune, if at all.
