| I wait until the cold winter has caused it to go dormant, then I trim it to the ground. When Spring returns, the new growth comes from the base and not from any of the branches that grew the previous year. |

Hi Jill,
Great advice from Sandi, but it depends on which hydrangea you have as to when and IF you prune at all. Here's a site that will help you to id yours and when to prune, if at all.
