I'm going w/ raised bed gardens this coming year. But do "treated" timbers" or railroad ties leach anything into the soil that is harmful?
Is there evidence of this if so? |

| In my experience all woods rot quickly when kept moist such as in a raised bed, treated or not, except for railroad ties which are treated with extreamely toxic stuff that leaches easily. For me using a denser softwood such as douglas fir or larch untreated with anything works well. I choose a #1 or #2 construction grade and accept the fact that it won't last forever, though you'll be suprised at how long it does last. |
