I would like to buy compost in bulk because by the bag is too expensive. I need about 4 cu. yds to start out with.

Is their compost good quality and well broken down? I've bought from a couple of sources in the west Fort Worth and Parker county area, but it was still way too "woody" to be good in the garden.

Soil Building Systems has great compost, but it may be a little more out of the way for you. www.soilbuildingsystems.com

Living Earth Technologies makes very good compost. They tried to break into the San Antonio market a few years ago but went back home after giving it the ol college try. Too much entrenched competition here. They still sell compost in bags at Lowe's and theirs is some of the best. I might add that they sell two lines at Lowe's and one is also some of the worst. You have to inspect it looking for sand. Any compost you buy with sand in it should go for about 1/3 the price for the pure stuff.

If you must buy in bags, I like Black Kow. Lewisville Feed and other feed stores, I am sure, sell composted chicken and turkey manures as well. Composted manure is great! Much better than some stuff they try to pass off as compost which is more like mulch!

I use Dr Gobber turkey compost from Mida Bio in Central Texas, Hewitt. It is very fine and high quality.
