For the budding birders in the group, the Texas Rio Grande Valley has been THE place to be this winter. Rare species from Mexico being regularly seen include crimson-collared grosbeak, blue bunting, gray-crowned yellowthroat, rose-throated becard and white-throated robin.

I was there a few weeks ago and I agree with you. I saw the cc grosbeak, wt robin and a male elegant trogon in the same day. We think we saw a female blue bunting but couldn't get an exact id. We spoke with a lady who observed it for 5 minutes, up close, that morning, so it probably was the same bird.
