| The okra, melons and squash should be planted after the last killing freeze. The tomato seed should be started 8 to 10 weeks before the last killing freeze either indoors or in a hot box and planted outside after the last killing freeze. |

I picked up a chart at a local nursery. They recommend:
17 Mar for tomatoes, watermelon, canteloupe
24 Mar for squash
31 Mar for okra |

| Be prepared to have a protective covering for your tomatoes. I almost always lose at least a couple of tomato plants to late frosts in April. I do live west of the DFW area, so it tends to get a little colder than the city. |

This response is a little late but to add to the dates given for planting, here is the "window" of usual times for planting in the DFW area. The dates come from a nursery in Dallas.
Tomato (plants) Mar 17 - May 12 Aug 11 - Aug 25
Cantaloupe Mar 17 - Apr 28 July 28 - Aug 11
Summer Squash Mar 24 - Apr 14 Aug 4 - Aug 25
Watermelon Mar 17 - Apr 28 Jul 28 - Aug 11
Okra Mar 31 - Apr 28 Jul 28 - Aug 25
Never have grown okra but except for tomato plants ( not seeds), we have grown all others by planting seed at those times. All depends on the weather each year as to which dates we first plant each veggie. Hope this helps!! Greenbeans |

| I might disagree on the tomato planting of Mar 17 - May 12. Most tomatoes wont set fruit when the temperature gets into the upper 90s, so planting in May is probably too late since they wont have time to set before the June heat. |
