I did a search on the site and cannot find anything specific so I am hoping someone out there can give me some info. My beagle is having a problem with fleas. Except for a two week period in December she has been on Muenster's food and garlic/yeast mixed into it for five months now. There is no sign of active fleas on her body but she has the egg sacs on her hair close to the skin. I was told to get an herbal shampoo at the vets office but I think I have everything here. I have Dr. Bronner's Soaps (almond & peppermint), tea tree oil and orange oil readily available. Can I make my own shampoo for her?
I appreciate any help.

Hi Christina,
I can't speak to making your own pet shampoo, but I can tell you that we use and like Citrusil Plus Shampoo. It is from the folks at www.espree.com. I have a LPS that carries the products, but have spoken with the hdqs and she offered to ship to me directly if the product I wanted wasn't stocked. |

Christina-
I hope you are still monitoring your post. I also like the shampoo from Espree. After shampooing and rinsing, I mix about 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in a gallon of tepid or lukewarm water and rinse again. It seems to take care of any remaining fleas and makes my dog's coat absolutely glisten. Be sure not to get the solution in the eyes-I usually just rinse from the neck back. I also got a flea comb-works great! Good luck! |

The shampoo may be OK, but I wasn't happy with the flea, tick, and fly spray. However, it is the only thing that I could find that was approved for cats, so I bought it for my cats. But, I use Flick's for my dogs and horses. The full name is Flicks All Natural Horse and Pet Spray Concentrate. All natural oils in a lanolin base. Espree products are mineral oil based and really attract dirt.
I only use Dr. Bonner's soaps on me and my animals, horses, dogs, and cats. I figure if its good enough for them, its good enough for me :-) |
