What's the bird with the black mask and yellow-tipped tail?

This is one of the most common identifcation questions we receive this time of year. The bird in question is probably a Cedar Waxwing. The cedar waxwing is a winter visitor in Texas and is almost always seen in flocks. A red spot on the wings give the bird part of its name. It also has a crest similar to a cardinal.

Waxwings can remain in Texas until late spring, feeding on seeds and berries. Waxwings can become intoxicated after gorging themselves on fermenting berries.
