I live in Grandview. (about 30 miles south of FW). We have a couple of loggerhead shrikes that appeared on our property last Thanksgiving. As of 3/29/05 I spotted one of them.

Is anyone else familiar with these birds. We have discovered some very cool facts about the loggerhead shrike and have had a blast observing their hunting and eating habits.[/img]

The Loggerheaded Shrike is also called the butcher bird for its habit of impaling insects, mice and other prey on thorns or barbed wire.

It is a winter resident throughout the state and nests in the eastern half. Numbers are declining.

The very similar Northern Shrike is found, as its name suggests, in the northern part of the country amd is seldom seen in Texas.
