We sold our above ground pool, and are left with the sand the contractor used to set the pool on. We now have a 20-ft diameter "beach," half of which will become flowerbed, and the other half lawn.

My thinking is to amend this sand with compost, molasses, lava sand, and greensand to support plant life. Am I on the right track?

The area is probably contamiinated with herbicides. Detox the area first with the NORIT activated carbon product and then apply the bed preparation amendments. Better use ornamental plants instead of food crops.

In addition you might use the chipped tree trimmings from a local tree trimmer as a mulch.
