A landfill in my area mulches Christmas trees, among others, and gives it away just to get rid of it. My handyman brought a pickup load of it and spread it on my garden. Is it likely to contain toxins? Should I get rid of it?

I don't think so. What toxins were you thinking of?

Anything at all. Heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, mulched batteries.

I suppose it is possible the trees might have been sprayed with herbicide and maybe insecticide, but that was a long time ago. That stuff deteriorates in the sunlight and deteriorates even more in a precomposted mulch form.
As for batteries, I suppose that is possible, too, but I've never heard of it. Anything is possible but the likelihood is pretty small. |

Thank you. I'll stop worrying about it.
