i have no trouble making martins feel welcome. but i am missing something with the swallows. i have two structures on my property that (to me) look great for swallows. no luck. is there something obvious i'm missing? i have open water source, no consistent predators, and what looks to me like good nesting areas. i love their voice, their flight, & their insect consumption.
any ideas?
thx.

Hmm...
you could go and catch some and tell them don't leave your property!

Good to me!

My neighbours had swallows and I didn't! So, I looked at the sites the birds were useing and tried to duplicate. They have to have places that will be out of the rain.....cause their houses are mud. I cut, painted to match then installed 1x4 shelves under my porches....up at the ceiling.
The birds came in a few days! Also, even though there is a pond very near by....I kept a wet, muddy spot in the driveway while the nest building was going on. It Worked!!!
Try this and I wish you good luck.
